Westfields entertained Southern League Premier league team Evesham United and went toe to toe with their higher graded opponents but lost to a wonder goal from substitute Ion Richards who blasted home an 80th minute winner, at allpay.park on Saturday in front of 243 spectators.
After a goalless first half when Jack Oxenham in the Westfields goal made two smart saves to keep the visitors at bay, Westfields took the lead early in the second half when Bailey Fuller cut in from the right hand side and curled a shot past
the visitors keeper with a lovely finish to put Westfields 1-0 up against their higher graded opponents.
Jac Oxenham then produced a full length save to keep out an Evesham volley but he could nothing to stop the visitors equaliser. Westfields gave away a needless corner kick and from the corner Evesham drew level with a superb near post header.
Both sides then introduced substitutes for the final 15 minutes and within minutes Evesham had snatched the lead with a cracking 25 yard pile driver which flew into the top corner of the Westfields net.
Westfields came all out for an equaliser and Evesham survived some anxious moments in the last few minutes to win the game by a close margin of 2-1.
Westfields kick off in the Hellenic league Premier Division on Tuesday at home to Pershore Town 7-45 . On Saturday Westfields are at home to Atherstone Town kick off 3pm in the FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round at allpay park.
