Westfields and visiting Lydney Town served up a Christmas Cracker as Westfields came out on top in a 7 goal thriller which gave them a 4-3 home win and 3 vital Hellenic League points to hoist them up into 8th position in the Hellenic league Premier Division.

Westfields opened up well and Sirdic Grant caught the eye with good crosses and it came as no surprise when Westfields opened the scoring in the 22nd minute when Grant and Zac Powell linked up well to set up leading goal scorer Aidan Clark and he made no mistake from 15 yards to put Westfields ahead.

However Lydney hit back and caught Westfields on the counter attack and scored twice before the break to go in 2-1 ahead with good finishing from Jordan Sheen and then on the stroke of half time O,Ryan Reid.

After the break Westfields drew level in the 49th minute when Sirdic Grant got down the right and crossed to the far post where Rhys Bennett headed home the Westfields equaliser.

Westfields began to take control of the game and Aidan Clark found himself free in the box to fire Westfields into a 3-2 lead when Lydney defence failed to clear a Grant Cross.

In a ding dong end to end game Lydney Town drew level at 3-3 when Ethan Vaughan seized on a hesitant Westfields defence to nip in and put the two sides level again at 3-3.

In a pulsating end to the game both sides pushed forward and in the last minute Westfields grabbed a dramatic winner when again neat play on the wing by Grant saw his neat cross tucked away by Dan Cottrill for his first goal for Westfields since arriving from Worcester Raiders and give Westfields a fine 4-3 home win at allpay.park and 3 welcome league points.
