Westfields vs Lye Town (2026-07-25)

Westfields entertained old Midland Football League rivals Lye Town in a pre season friendly at allpay.park and produced a hardworking performance to record a good 2-2 draw.

Westfields were forced to hit back twice to gain a creditable draw as the West Midland visitors had led on two occasions.

Lye Town in fact opened the scoring after only 12 minutes when Westfields were punished for a misplaced pass out of defence and the visitors striker beat Matt Gwynne with a terrific shot from the edge of the box to put the visitors ahead.

Westfields responded with some good approach play and Reiss Taylor-Randle tested the Lye Town Keeper with a crisp shot then James Baldwin went close for Westfields before Westfields deservedly drew level when a neat build up ended with Will Dallaway firing in a low shot into the bottom corner of the Lye Town net for the equaliser in the 37th minute.

Westfields continued to impress and thought they had gone ahead just before the interval when Joe Hunt headed home at the far post but referee Cliff Gardiner disallowed the goal for an infringement in the build up of play.

After the break both sides introduced substitutes and Lye Town regained the lead with shot which cannoned  off a Westfields defender and flew into the top corner of net to give Lye Town a 2-1 lead.

Back came Westfields and Jamie Clarke hit the post when he seemed certain to score the equaliser and as Westfields mounted a wave of attacks Dan Cottrill was denied an equaliser as the Lye Town keeper saved at point blank range.

Westfields maintained the pressure in search of an equaliser and it came when two second half substitutes linked up well when Jamie Clark set up a chance for Finn Waller who tucked away the chance for a deserved equaliser at 2-2.

Westfields went all out for a winner and Manager Dan Janes pushed men forward but the Lye Town defence stood firm for a draw in a hard fought end to end pre season friendly.
