Westfields: Baldwin, Tilbury
Man of the Match: Jack Cresswell
On Saturday Westfields are at home to Thornbury Town kick off 3pm at Allpay.park in a Hellenic Premier Division Game
Westfields went to the top of The Hellenic league Premier Division with their 3rd consecutive league win when they overcame visiting Pershore Town 2-0 in a hard fought competitive league encounter at Allpay.Park.
Westfields had to work hard to achieve the valuable 3 points against a lively no nonsense visiting Worcestershire side who were well in the game throughout the ninety minutes.
Westfields got off to a dream start when the lively Yuri Quintas got free on the right and put over a menacing cross and James Baldwin got on the end of it to convert the chance while under a challenge from a Pershore defender to put Westfields 1-0 ahead.
Pershore Town came storming back and had a few chances including a free kick that rattled the Westfields cross bar.
At the other end Pershore keeper twice made catches under pressure as the game swung from end to end in a hard fought first half.
After the break Pershore applied good pressure for an equaliser but Will Beach and Joe Hunt were impressive at the back for Westfields.
As the game swung from end to end Westfields got the important second goal when substitute Bailey Fuller opened up the Pershore defence and laid on a chance for Ben Tilbury to convert in a crowded goalmouth to put Westfields 2-0 ahead with 10 minutes left to play.
Pershore mounted pressure on the Westfields defence and Matt Gwynne in the Westfields goal produced a brilliant save to tip a close range shot over the bar as Pershore looked certain to score a late goal.
Westfields defended well and withstood a late flurry of attacks from Pershore to keep a clean sheet and go top of the league.
