Westfields continued to stutter in the Hellenic League Premier Division when lowly Royal Wootton Bassett Town held Westfields to a 1-1 draw at Allpay.park on Saturday.

Westfields have not won in their last 3 league games and on Saturday had to come from behind to earn a point then had to play the last 10 minutes with 10 men after substitute Zac Powell received 2 yellow cards and was sent off.

Westfields looked disjointed and struggled to find their rhythm although they went close to opening the scoring but Cameron Davies headed over the bar from a left wing corner.

The visitors then took the lead in bizarre fashion when a long clearance by the Bassett keeper bounced into the Westfields goal area and skipper Harrisison Iddles and Keeper Shay Sterry got in a tangle and left Finlay Hopkins with an easy task to accept a gift opening goal with a simple tap in.

Two minutes before the interval Westfields keeper Shay Sterry redeemed himself with a tremendous save after he tipped a stinging drive over the crossbar as the visitors went into 1-0 interval lead.

After the break Westfields tried hard to get level but it was Sterry who saved at the foot of the post then plucked a dangerous cross out of the air to keep Westfields in the game.

Westfields eventually pulled level on the hour when Wootton Bassett only cleared a corner kick to the edge of the penalty area and Bailey Fuller riffled home a low shot into the bottom corner of the net to put Westfields level at 1-1.

Westfields then sent on substitutes Zac Powell and Lewis Rose in a bid to grab a winner but Westfields got frustrated by the  tight young Bassett defence and Powell was yellow carded twice in a 10 minute spell and was red carded to leave Westfields with 10 men and an uphill task for the last 10 minutes.

Westfields had a let off in the dying minutes when Wootton Bassett striker Kassa Anderson got through on goal but fired wide with only Shay Sterry to beat.

Westfields had to settle for a point in a match that the young visitors deserved a share of the spoils.
