Westfields vs Royal Wootton Bassett Town (2026-09-19)

Westfields fell to their 3rd Hellenic League defeat of the season when they were beaten by a solitary goal by visiting Royal Wootton Bassett Town at allpay .park.

The visitors had teenage keeper Josh Sawyer to thank as the youngster gave a faultless display to keep Westfields attack at bay.

Westfields gave a below par performance and found Royal Wootton Bassett Town with only one league win all season in hardworking mode and the visitors deserved the 3 points with the 1-0 win.

Westfields approach play was poor and miss placed passes were costly and twice Matt Gwynne in the Westfields goal went full length to save well to keep out the visitors attack then Alfie Presley headed wide at the far post when the visitors should have taken the lead on 30 minutes.

Royal Wootton Bassett Town took the lead just before half time when Chris Gregan was caught in possession and Ed Oatley burst forward to beat Matt Gwynne with a low drive.

At the other end Sawyer in the visitors goal gathered up inviting crosses.

After the break Westfields had the wind advantage but their passes into the strikers were blocked by the big visitors defence.

Westfields then enjoyed a good spell but Sawyer in the Bassett goal cut out menacing crosses.

Westfields were then hit on the counter attack and Matt Gwynne went full length to tip a fierce drive around the post.

Westfields then went all out in the  final 10 minutes to force an equaliser but despite forcing several corners they could not beat Sawyer in the visitors goal as they registered only their second league win of the season.
