Westfields 1 - Clarke
Stourport Swifts 2 -
Westfields continued their pre season program with the visit of Midland Alliance league team Stourport Swifts and produced a workmanlike display but were guilty of some poor finishing against the Worcestershire visitors and were beaten 2-1 in a game they had the better goal scoring opportunities.
Westfields took a 35 minute lead when Aidan Clarke scored a fine individual goal from 12 yards to put Westfields ahead then 2 minutes later striker Sam Griffiths missed a sitter from 6 yards when he fired wide of an open goal.
Stourport Swifts then equalised when an uncharacteristic mistake by central defender Cam Davies allowed Stourport the chance to pull level at 1-1.
Westfields hit back and should have regained the lead but again Sam Griffiths failed to put away a good opportunity as the 2 sides went in level at the break.
After the interval Griffiths again got into a good position on the right and he cut inside and again fired wide of the far post.
Stourport were lively on the counter attack and Shay Sterry saved brilliantly at the foot of the post before Stourport Swifts took the lead midway through the second half with a fine individual goal when the visitors striker beat 3 Westfields defenders before rounding Sterry to fire into an empty net.
Westfields responded and Bailey Fuller and Adam Hockey were introduced to the attack but good defending by the Stourport defence kept Westfields at bay.
Westfields had a couple of free kicks but Mason Godsall fired at the Stourport keeper and a couple of other efforts were cleared by the Stourport defenders as the visitors held out to win 2-1.
Westfields now face Hellenic League Champions Hartpury College on Wednesday kick off 7-30pm at allpay.park and on Saturday play their final pre season friendly when Evesham United visit Westfields kick off 3pm.
