Man of the Match: Ari-Jae Shaw
Westfields 2 - Shaw 2
Thornbury Town 2 - Chalmers 2
Westfields secured their first Hellenic League point of 2026 when they gained a deserved 2-2 home draw with Thornbury Town on Saturday at a beautifully prepared allpay.park.
Westfields gave a hardworking non stop performance and opened the scoring in the 15th minute when Ari-Jae Shaw fired in a low drive from 12 yards to put Westfields ahead.
However the lead was short lived and Thornbury Town equalised 7 minutes later when leading goalscorer Callum Chalmers beat 3 Westfields defenders in a good run before firing in a cracking drive past Ryan Smallwood in the Westfields goal.
Thornbury were then in front when Cam Davies brought down Chalmers in the Westfields penalty area and the visitors were awarded a penalty which Chalmers tucked away to put the Thornbury Town ahead.
Westfields were back at it in a ding dong opening 45 minutes and just before half time Westfields drew level when dangerman Ari-Jae Shaw cut in from the left and beat the Thornbury keeper with a shot off the far post to go into the interval all square at 2-2.
After the break both sides defended well but Westfields were unlucky not to take the lead when a good move down the right saw Jamie Clark play a lovely pass to Shaw who’s low shot was saved by the out stretched Leg of Welch in the Thornbury goal.
Westfields mounted a wave of attacks but the visit defence stood firm while when Thornbury attacked Westfields defended well.
Westfields were then reduced to 10 men in the 85th minute when Dan Cottrill got his second yellow card of the game for a sloppy challenge but Westfields worked hard to see the game out for a deserved point in a 2-2 draw.
Next Saturday Westfields are at home to FA Vase semi finalists Hallen in a league match 3pm allpay .park
