Westfields: Chris Gregab
Worcester United: Matt Turner, Cal Morgan
Westfields, the record Cup Winners of the Herefordshire County Senior Challenge Cup, were knocked out of the competition by a shock 2-1 home defeat by visiting Worcester United tonight.
Westfields dominated the game for long periods of the game but came up against a resilient Worcester defence who worked overtime to contain Westfields crosses into the penalty area.
Westfields started well and enjoyed good periods of play as both James Baldwin and Finn Waller provided crosses which failed to be finished with the final touch.
Bailey Fuller twice shot high over the Worcester bar before the visitors opened the scoring when Will Beach was caught in possession and Matt Turner seized on the chance to put Worcester ahead.
Westfields went close with Finn Waller and Tyrese Sibanda having half chances but it was the visitors who went in 1-0 ahead at the break.
After the break Westfields immediately drew level when Chris Gregan headed Westfields level in the 48th minute and then proceeded to batter the Worcester goal but the Worcester defence stood firm.
Westfields substitute Dan Cottrill then headed against the post and Worcester keeper Joel Chadwick fielded crosses as Westfields looked to find a winning goal.
However it was the visitors who surprised Westfields when they snatched the winner in the 85th minute when Westfields defence failed to clear their lines and the ball fell nicely to Cal Morgan who riffled home the late match winner.
Westfields still had opportunities to draw level but despite a string of corners Worcester United stood firm in defence to pull off a shock cup win over a disappointing Westfields side.
